2019 A10 Awards
A10 all conference awards should be out today. Jamie Peterson will be First Team and probably POY, but VCUs Jasmin Sneed is a senior and very good whereas JPete has two more years, so the coaches may give it to Sneed.
Amelia Moore should win ROY. She started a little slow the first month of the season, but has been very steady during A10 play. She will also be named to the All-Rookie Team.
LaSalle’s Setter -Katie Wood will probably repeat as SOY. She’s a senior. But Cordia from SLU might give her a run for this award this year. They will both be honored. The VCU coach will probably win COY after they beat UD last week.
LOY will come down to two seniors. Probably Williams from Fordham, but maybe Razloff from Rhode Island. UDs Maura Collins, for the second year will be left off post-season awards. That’s a crime. She is very good, but it’s how the chips will probably fall. Last year as a freshman, she played DS behind Margo Wolf - LOY. On any other team in the A10 Maura would have been the Libero, not the DS. She would have been on the all Rookie team. This year, teams hit away from her because she is so good and there are two good senior Libero in the conference. I doubt there will be more than two defenders on the conference teams.
For the first time, in a long time, Dayton will not have the most awards - VCU will. They are a senior-heavy team and that will be reflected in the awards. But, It also has to do with too many injuries this season that have kept our rotation in a constant change from week to week. No one was out for the season, but it sure would be nice to get everyone back starting Saturday. Unofficially I’ve heard that might happen.
Awards are nice, but winning the next two matches is the bigger prize.
