I love my girlfriend but can’t stop flirting with other women when out drinking
DEAR DEIDRE: THOUGH I love my girlfriend, I still flirt with other women when out drinking.
I don’t take it any further, but why can’t I stop myself doing it in the first place?
The next day I feel awful as I know it is wrong, even though I don’t actually cheat. I am 22 and I have been with my girlfriend for more than two years.
Early on I did not take the relationship very seriously and I sometimes kissed other girls. Then I realised she is very special and my best friend as well as my lover.
I generally avoid nights out now but, when I do go, I still flirt. I wouldn’t do this if sober.
Is it because I lost my first love when I was in my late teens. Or is that an excuse?

DEIDRE SAYS: It sounds like you suffer from low self-esteem so cannot resist looking for approval when alcohol lowers inhibitions.
My e-leaflet Raising Self-Esteem will help.
Don’t underestimate the damage this may do to your romance. You can have a night out without alcohol.
