World leaders descend on Buckingham Palace for Nato visit hosted by Queen

Kate Middleton, Donald Trump and Angela Merkel were all pictured arriving at the reception.

Nato leaders have arrived at Buckingham Palace this evening for a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Donald Trump and Melania were among the first to arrive amid heavy security, as protesters took to the surrounding areas to demonstrate against the meeting.

The First Lady wore a striking yellow Valentino coat teamed with fuchsia heels, while the US President sported a dark coloured suit and royal blue tie.

Earlier today the couple met with Prince Charles and Camilla for afternoon tea at Clarence House.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are also in attendance for the reception, while the Duchess of Cambridge was photographed arriving by car.

Kate opted for a green Emilia Wickstead dress for the occasion, and wore her hair styled in loose curls.

The Queen was later seen shaking leaders’ hands while wearing a green dress, accessorised with an emerald green shawl, a pearl necklace and pearl earrings.

Her appearance comes just days after an online hoax started in a WhatsApp group claimed she had died.

The Nato visit marks 70 years since the alliance was first formed after the Second World War in 1949.

Other world leaders attending the palace this evening include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Once inside, they posed for a large group photo with the Queen, Prince Charles and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The leaders then moved on to Downing Street, where they were treated to Christmas carols sang by a choir outside Number 10.

The visit comes just as Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn vowed to confront President Trump over claims he is after the NHS, issuing a warning that ‘public services are not for sale’.

Meanwhile today hundreds of NHS workers and anti-war activists started a protest in the surrounding areas of the Nato visit.

Demonstrators marched from Trafalgar Square towards Buckingham Palace with placards bearing messages such as ‘No to Trump, No to War’ and ‘Trump, Hands off our NHS’.

A number of protesters expressed their fears over the impact of a future trade deal between the US and the UK on the NHS.

While others called on Nato and Turkey to stop their ‘war on Kurds’.

Police allowed protesters to make their way down The Mall as official cars carrying the world leaders arrived on the other side of the barriers.
