Oakland: Building damaged but no injuries reported in Fruitvale fire
OAKLAND — An apparently vacant building in the Fruitvale District was badly damaged by a fire Saturday morning.
No one was injured or displaced in the fire, which was reported just after 9:30 a.m., Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said.
Video and photos posted from the scene showed flames pouring out of a boarded-up building at the intersection of 39th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control quickly and kept it from spreading to a two-story building next door, Hunt said.
Traffic is blocked on Foothill between 42nd and 38th for a small structure fire. Rapid response and attack by #OFD had it under control quickly— no injuries and looks like no other structures were impacted. Crews still on scene. pic.twitter.com/lrTwy8qtrG
