Fed-up mum transforms her ‘ugly’ stairs after her landlord refused using just paint and a pack of wood for £25
A MUM got tired of waiting for her landlord to renovate her staircase so she did it herself for just £25.
After the carpet on her stairs was removed she was left with ‘ugly’ boards, covered with layers of multi-coloured paint.
After waiting for months for her landlord to do something about the eyesore, she took matters into her own hands
She picked up a tin of wood paint and laminate flooring, spending £25 on supplies.
The thrifty mum bagged herself a bargain in B&M, picking up the flooring for just a tenner after it was reduced due to a damaged box.
She sanded, painted and cut the wood to size before attaching it – and people are so impressed they’ve said she should bill her landlord for her work.
Sharing the transformation on Facebook group DIY On A Budget Official, she said: “It was so ugly under the stair carpet.
“My landlord’s been saying about replacing it for months now but I couldn’t bear to look at it any longer.
“Cost – 1 tin of wood paint and 1 pack of laminate cut to size, so £20/25.
“Anyway, just filled in the holes before sanding down the treads (didn’t bother with the back bits cause the laminate covers them) and painted the skirting and treads, took a few coats.
“Was quite lucky with the laminate as I just came across it by chance in B&M one day & it was reduced to a tenner cause the box was badly damaged.

“I had to use one piece per step, cut them to size and stuck them on, but not toooo much – so I could easily pry them off if I have to remove them when I move out.”
Her post has racked up more than 3,500 likes, as people were impressed with her handiwork.
And the mum said she was pleased with the result, adding: “Firstly, my landlord is fine with it (I’m guessing because now the carpet isn’t needed so urgently).
“But I honestly didn’t mind paying to do this cause it looked so disgusting and I’m just so happy I don’t have to see it every time I go upstairs now.”
People have said her landlord is lucky to have her as a tenant, with one person commenting: “Wow this looks amazing ! You have done a brilliant job ! Don’t think the landlord will want to touch it now.”
Another said: “Looks great. You saved the landlord a lot of money! Will he pay you for your materials? I think not.”
A third wrote: “I so love this its fresh and clean well done.”
Someone else said: “He should be giving you the money back you have saved him money.”
Someone else thought: “Lucky Landlord having a tenant like you…. Looks amazing.”
And this person added: “Wow what a difference yes your landlord will love you lol well done.”
