Boris Johnson arrives at Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen
Boris Johnson has arrived at Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen following his major election win.
The newly re-elected prime minister left Downing Street and headed to see Her Majesty where she will invite him to form a Government.
Although the PM was chosen in a landslide victory for the Conservative Party last night, it is not official until the Queen has undertaken constitutional duties.
Her Majesty will hold a one-to-one meeting, known as an audience, with Mr Johnson this afternoon and is something they will continue on a weekly basis through his premiership.
Just after 5am today, Mr Johnson’s party won after crossing the 326-seat threshold, which has been described as the biggest win for the Tories since the 1980s.
He faced fierce competition from the Labour party, but they were unable to unseat him and he was elected with an increased majority of 7,210.
Mr Johnson is expected to make a speech outside Downing Street outlining a schedule for the formation of his new government.
It is believed the Queen’s Speech is set to be a stripped down version, as it was just a few weeks since the last one.
