Sound of loud explosion rocks Dingli/Rabat

The sound of a loud explosion rocked parts of the Rabat/Dingli area, forcing some scared residents out of their homes on Monday afternoon.

The police confirmed that they had received many calls reporting the sound at about 5.05pm but said they did not know what caused it. There were no reports of any explosion or damage anywhere. 

"It was quite a shock, more like an explosion more than a tremor," one resident said.

The possibility that this was a sonic boom caused by a supersonic aircraft near by was not ruled out.
