San Francisco 49ers Halftime Show preview: Get ready to ‘Bust a Move’

0

Going to see the San Francisco 49ers take on the Minnesota Viking in a playoff game on Saturday (Jan. 11) at Levi’s Stadium?

Well, lucky you. Those are some tough tickets to come by. And, besides the game, you’ll also get to witness a pretty intriguing halftime show featuring some hip-hop hit-makers of yesteryear.

The lineup consists of Tone Loc, Young MC and the Sugar Hill Gang.

Here’s a look closer look at the bill:

Tone Loc

The 53-year-old rapper from Los Angeles burst onto the national scene in a big way with his 1989 debut, “Lōc-ed After Dark,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and featured the huge hip-hop hits  “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina.” It will be interesting in this #MeToo era to see if Loc performs “Funky Cold Medina” at Levi’s, given that the song’s content revolves around slipping some kind of a “love potion” into the drinks of unsuspecting females.

Young MC

The British MC is, by far, best known for his 1989 mega-hit “Bust a Move,” which won the 1990 Grammy for best rap performance and remained in the Top 40 for 20 weeks. It is, quite simply, one of the genre’s all-time classics and one that should truly have fans up and out of their seats — and busting moves — when he plays it at Levi’s.

Sugar Hill Gang

The New Jersey hip-hop trio only had one sizable hit in the U.S. But what it a hit it was — 1979’s “Rapper’s Delight,” which became the first rap single to hit the Top 40 on Billboard. Expects tens of thousands to sing along when Sugar Hill Gang performs the tune at Levi’s.
