Letter: Chief Justice Roberts must make a statement on this
Chief justice must remind
the Senate of their oaths
Editors of all major U.S. newspapers should issue a plea to Chief Justice Roberts asking him to make a statement. The statement must warn the Senate that this nation is a nation of laws.
Every elected official has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution. For the majority leader of the Senate to publicly state that they are working “in total coordination with the White House” shakes our foundation of justice to the core.
Our children, our minorities, our citizens, indeed, the world are watching how we carry out justice. The chief justice must remind the Senate of their oaths and responsibilities, not to dismiss charges, not to carry out a sham trial.
They need to hear the evidence, to listen to witnesses if they so choose, and deliberate honestly. We have all pledged “with justice for all.”
