Matthew, who also appeared in Cleaning Up and Deadwater Fell, Matthew said: “I had such a blast filming the episode and couldn’t ask for anything more for my Doctor Who debut.”

Warren starred as DS Justin Ripley in acclaimed BBC crime drama Luther alongside Idris Elba, and Matt Strevens, Executive Producer of the sci-fi drama added: “We are totally thrilled to be welcoming Matthew and Warren to the cast.

“Their talent and versatility sets this action adventure alight.”

Doctor Who returned on New Year’s Day with an explosive first episode, and Jodie Whittaker back in charge of the TARDIS as the Doctor.

Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill all joined her for another trip around the galaxy, while the BBC has also confirmed a guest appearance from Breaking Bad actor Laura Fraser for standalone episode Orphan 55.

The summary for the adventure reads: “The Doctor and friends discover the luxury resort where she and her friends are holidaying is hiding a number of deadly secrets.

“What are the ferocious monsters attacking Tranquillity Spa?”

Suffice to say a spa trip for The Doctor isn’t something we’d typically expect – but Fraser teased that the gang would be faced with the stuff of nightmares.

“I was really impressed with the monsters and the people that operate the monsters too – it’s such a funny life isn’t it?” she said.

“That their life is to go on all these different sets and be all these kinds of monsters and perform stunts as these monsters – it’s totally fascinating.

Doctor Who continues on BBC One on Sunday January 12 at 7:10pm.
