2020 Eastern Sectional Championship Wrap-Up (6.0)

From January 15-19, over 80 teams competed in 6.0 events at the 2020 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships in Albany, New York. These events highlighted hard work and dedication to the sport from teams all over the east coast.

In the preliminary division, the top five teams from two groups advanced to the final round. In group A, DC EDGE Blue stole the show and earned first place to qualify. Joining them were Team Excel, Team Ashburn, The Colonials, and Precisely Right. In group B, Shooting Stars topped the group. Also qualifying for the championship round were Skyliners Pre, Team Image, Skyliners, and Synchroettes. In the championship round, Skyliners defended their Sectional title and earned first-place ordinals across the board. DC EDGE Blue claimed the silver medal. Team Excel followed with the bronze, and Shooting Stars took home pewter.

The pre-juvenile division was one of the biggest events, featuring 29 teams across three groups. The top four teams from each group advanced to the championship round. In group A, Munchkins took first place. DC EDGE, Precisely Right, and CT Ice Fusion also qualified. Shooting Stars topped group B to qualify, joined by Shimmers, Team Ashburn, and Chesapeake Synchro. In group C, Skyliners took the top qualifying spot. The Colonials, Steel City Blades, and Team Image also earned qualifying spots. In the championship round, Skyliners picked up another Sectional title with a first-place finish. The Colonials brought home the silver medal, and DC EDGE and Munchkins earned the bronze and pewter medal, respectively.

Competition in the open juvenile event was also tough, as 24 teams competed in three groups with the top four from each group qualifying for the championship round. Superettes topped group A, advancing along with Team Rinx, Island Waves, and National Blades. In group B, Icing on the Cape finished first. DC EDGE Red, DC EDGE Blue, and NESC Ice Illusion moved forward to the championship round as well. Team Excel took the top qualifying spot in group C, joined by Precisely Right, CNY Blizzard, and Philadelphia Symmetry. In the championship round, DC EDGE Red took home the title and a gold medal. Icing on the Cape earned the silver medal. Superettes finished with bronze, and CNY Blizzard rounded out the podium with a pewter medal.

In the open collegiate division, Boston College Eagles topped the seven-team field to finish in first place, earning four first-place ordinals from the judges panel. Orange Experience at Syracuse University were the silver medalists, scoring two first-place ordinals. Princeton University claimed the bronze medal, and Oswego State Ice Effects brought home the pewter medal, earning one first-place ordinal.

Gardens Synchronicity won the open adult title, earning four first-place ordinals. Empire Edge finished in second place, earning two first-place ordinals. Richmond Synchro ended in third. Cutting Edge rounded out the medalists in fourth place, receiving one first-place ordinal.

In the open masters event, The Colonials finished in first, receiving first-place ordinals across the board. Mirror Image placed second, and Maine DownEasters finished in third. Philadelphia Symmetry finished in fourth place.
