Amsterdam fire chief retires

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Amsterdam’s fire chief, who spent more than three decades with the department, has retired.

A ceremony was held for Chief Michael Whitty on Thursday.

Whitty first joined the department in 1988 and was promoted to chief in 2014. His career spans 32 years, and he held multiple positions, including driver, lieutenant and battalion chief.
