Natives in Containers

UC Master Gardener Carol Peck will address the advantages of growing California native plants in gardensor containers Feb. 15 at the Sunnyvale Library.

Peck will introduce plants that are hardy to the local environment while producing flowers, fruit and interesting foliage. Native plants also offer food and shelter to wildlife and help to maintain delicate ecosystems.

The free program runs 2-4 p.m. For more information, visit http://mgsantaclara.ucanr.edu.

Art Club meeting

Sunnyvale Art Club member Andrea Catura will demonstrate acrylic pouring to create abstract art at the club’s Feb. 20 meeting.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the painting room of the Creative Art Building at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E. Remington Drive. Guests are welcome. Call Chris MacDonough at 408-749-8350 for more information.

Wartime exhibit in Sunnyvale

The year 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, and the current exhibit at the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum looks back at wartime in Sunnyvale.

In 1942, Washington Park became training grounds for recruits, and Sunnyvale was inundated with soldiers who added a new element to the town and took local girls to dances at the Civic Center.

Along with many photographs, the exhibit features military paraphernalia from both world wars, including uniforms, mess kits, canteens, gas masks, and a foot locker, as well as maps and newspaper pages from those periods.

The exhibit opens Feb. 23 and will be on display through the summer at the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, 570 E. Remington Drive. Museum hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.

For more information, call 408-749-0220 or visit http://www.heritageparkmuseum.org.

Silicon Valley Clean Energy is sponsoring a Feb. 23 workshop on the “how-tos” and benefits of electric vehicle ownership.

Attendees can hear a live presentation by Acterra, including a Q & A session, view electric vehicles on display and talk with individual owners.

The workshop runs 2-4 p.m. at the UU Fellowship of Sunnyvale, 112 S. Bernardo Ave.

Advance registration is recommended at bit.ly/goev2-23-20.
