Lorries overturned in 90mph winds as Storm Ciara wreaks havoc on roads
Severe winds continue to wreak havoc on Britain's transport infrastructure.
Two lorries and a coach have been blown over by strong winds as Storm Ciara sweeps across the UK leaving a trail of traffic disruption.
All lanes were blocked both ways after an HGV overturned on the M1 between Milton Keynes and Northampton.
The lorry was dragged to the side of the carriageway as it was too windy to get it back onto its wheels. One northbound lane was later reopened.
In the Scottish Highlands a lorry overturned on the A96 at Gollanfield yesterday, while in Aberdeenshire a coach overturned on the A90 slip road for Newburgh.
Police said no-one was injured, although the roads were closed overnight as the vehicles could not be moved safely.
An amber alert for very strong winds remains in place for much of the UK, with gusts reaching more than 90mph in places.
Dozens of flights in and out of the UK have been cancelled, while a number of rail operators have urged passengers not to travel.
Ferry passengers also face cancellations, while authorities have warned road users to take extra care.
As well as overturned vehicles, a large number of fallen trees and large debris have risked serious injury to drivers across Britain.
Emergency services were called to Flitwick today after a tree fell onto a car, and firefighters in Blackpool were called to rescue a driver who got stuck in floodwater.
A red warning indicating danger to life has been issued around Pateley Bridge in north Yorkshire after the River Nidd burst its banks.
Residents in Bury, Greater Manchester have been forced to evacuate their homes after the River Irwell flooded.
