JAMES Corden delivered the worst possible news to Gavin and Stacey fans, as he announced the show would not be coming back for a another season, or even another one-off special.

The TV presenter admitted he and co-writer Ruth Jones have no plans bring the show back, which is sure to leave its most avid viewers absolutely devastated.

The comedy made a successful return to TV screens on Christmas Day for a one-off special.

It was watched by a whopping 11.6 million viewers and was the most-watched show on the BBC on 25 December 2019.

It was the first time in nine years that the show would release a new episode but unfortunately, fans cannot expect to see any more.

Speaking to Lorraine on the Oscars red carpet, James revealed there have not been any conversations about making more episodes.

“We have no plans to make another, not at the moment,” he said.

“We’ll have a sit down and think about that at some point but we certainly haven’t had that discussion yet.”

However, the show’s writers were absolutely thrilled with the response to the Christmas episode, which became the UK’s most-watched scripted show of the decade.

“We’re over the moon that that many people would watch it. It’s a mind-blowing number,” he explained.

Fans saw the Christmas episode end on a huge cliffhanger when Nessa shockingly proposed to Smithy, and viewers are keen to know what happens next.

Stacey Shipman, played by Joanna Page, has said that both herself and the cast would love to come together and do the show once again, especially after the way it ended.

“If I had to put a bet on it I would say yes – but I have no idea if it is coming back,’ she told The Sun.

“I thought we would never do it again, I spent 10 years telling people we were never doing it again, then suddenly we did the special!”

She added: “But when I first read [the script] on my phone and got to the end I thought: “What!! They can’t leave it like that!!”

“I want to know if Smithy is going to say yes, so they’ve got to do one.”

Despite the Christmas special’s great reception and the fans wanting to see more, the BBC needed to defend the show over the use of a homophobic show.

They received almost 900 complaints from viewers over the use of the word ‘f****t during a performance of The Pogue’s classic Fairytale Of New York.
