Gavin and Stacey’s Rob Brydon tells Chris Evans the cast ‘couldn’t top’ Christmas special episode if it returned again
GAVIN and Stacey’s Rob Brydon tells Chris Evans the cast “couldn’t top” Christmas special episode if it returned again.
Over 18million people tuned into the latest instalment of the BBC comedy, which returned for the first time in 10 years in December.
But Rob Brydon – who plays Uncle Bryn – says writers James Corden and Ruth Jones won’t be able to top it if more episodes are released.
Speaking on the Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show with Sky, he said: “If you’ve done something and people are saying, no, I want more, I think that’s the way you want to be.
“And then I saw things saying [I have] put the dampeners on it; he doesn’t want to do it. I would do it if they wanted to do it.
“But equally, I don’t know how we’d ever top that. You know that because it came back, it was such a surprise to people that they were going to do it. Nobody more so than me. I had no idea.”
He added: “But I don’t see it happening anytime soon.”
Rob said he got in trouble after he urged writers to “leave people wanting more” while speaking at the NTAs.
Fans are desperate for a new series following the cliffhanger at the end of the episode, but Rob thinks they should bow out “on a high”.
He told Heat magazine: “There are no plans whatsoever and personally I would say leave it where it is, with people wanting more.

“It’s always my instinct and I said that before this special and I was very surprised then to see that they had written it.
“Everyone is saying ‘you must want to do more’ but I’d much rather leave it on a high and it’s really hard to come back after 10 years and to make something as popular as it has been because you can get it wrong.”
