DYSON has warned people not to wash their vacuums in the bathtub after a cleaning tip went viral.

Cleaning fanatics were sharing snaps on Facebook showing their appliances in the bath after soaking them overnight.

Photos revealed filthy water, illustrating how dirty their vacuums were, but not everyone was convinced by the method.

A post on We Love Mrs Hinch racked up hundreds of comments, with people claiming the idea was ‘stupid’.

One person said: “I’m sorry but this is just next level stupidity.”

Another wrote: “What? Who on earth cleans a vacuum out? I thought only Monica from Friends did this and even then she only vacuumed her vacuum.”

While a third said they were “freaking out” over the idea.

And now the makers have warned people against deep cleaning them this way, after the social media post went viral.

Despite people only soaking the attachments, rather than the electrical part of the vacuum, Dyson warned only one bit of the appliance can be safely washed.

A spokesperson said: “We do not recommend that owners expose their machines to water.

“Owners should refer to the cleaning instructions in the manual provided with the machine upon purchase.

“The only component that can be washed is the filter, which should be washed every three months to maintain the machine.”

For anyone still itching to give their Dyson a good scrub, the makers issued some advice on how to keep your vacuum in tip top condition.
