Attorney General William Barr ‘confirmed to testify’ before House Judiciary committee after Dems raise concerns
ATTORNEY General William Barr is reportedly set to testify before the House Judiciary committee after Democrats raised concerns about the “misuse” of the justice system.
The news emerged today as the House sent a letter dated February 12 to Barr apparently confirming his agreement to give evidence on March 31, 2020.
Democrats made the demands claiming Barr interfered in the sentencing of Trump’s associate Roger Stone.
Stone was convicted last year on allegations he lied to congressional investigators as well as threatening a witness.
Donald Trump blasted Justice Department prosecutors for recommending a hefty seven to nine-year sentence.
Hours later, the DOJ issued a revised recommendation calling for a lighter sentence.
Four prosecutors assigned to Stone’s case suddenly withdrew on Tuesday.
The letter read: “In the interest of transparency, we wish to be candid about one set of concerns we plan to address at the hearing.
“Since President Trump took office, we have repeatedly warned you and your predecessors that the misuse of our criminal justice system for political purposes is both dangerous to our democracy and unacceptable to the House Judiciary Committee.
“Our Republican colleagues have warned the Department of the same we have been consistent – and bi-partisan – in this message for years.”
On Wednesday, Trump praised Barr for “taking charge of a case,” indicating the attorney general had some hand in the matter.
The president said the case was “totally out of control and perhaps should not have even been brought.”
“Evidence now clearly shows that the Mueller Scam was improperly brought & tainted,” he tweeted. “Even Bob Mueller lied to Congress!”
