Bridesmaid boycotts cousin’s wedding after being asked to dye strawberry blonde hair because it ‘clashes with her dress’
IF years of reading passive aggressive Facebook statuses have taught us anything, it’s that family feuds are best resolved behind closed doors – and NOT the internet.
That said, one Bridezilla was blasted online last month when she demanded her cousin DYE her “flaming red ginger hair” because it clashed with the bridesmaid dress she had chosen for her.
The bridesmaid posted a photo of her strawberry blonde hair to prove it’s not ‘flaming red’ like Disney’s Merida[/caption]Likening her cousin to Disney’s Merida, the bride wrote on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum that she wanted her cousin Ella to temporarily dye her hair to something “less vibrant”.
But in an extraordinary turn of events, Ella – who posted under the username FreakingMerida – has now responded with her own post to set a few things straight.
Kicking off the lengthy post, the bridesmaid explained how she had shown her cousin Amy the Reddit thread last year and was writing her own post to “hammer her point home”.
Ella wrote: “So Amy is getting married. She has a blue and green and purple theme for the wedding. People are supposed to wear these colours – including the Maid of Honour and the bridesmaids.”
The bridesmaid has dropped out of the wedding party entirely[/caption]However, it’s not the choice of dress that’s bothering the bridesmaid – but rather, the fact that her hair “is NOT FLAMING MERIDA RED”.
Posting photos of her actual hair colour, Ella added: “My hair is what I would describe as strawberry blonde. Maybe ginger blonde.”
Unsurprisingly, Ella’s relationship with the bride has been strained since Amy started making all kinds of demands.
She continued: “Things have been awkward from the start with Amy demanding that everyone has to stick to this dress code or they will be barred by security at the damn door.
“She has also asked anyone with hair past their waist to cut it in a Facebook post – but it got no replies and I can’t think of anyone except me and maybe my sister with super long hair.”
The bridesmaid has tried on her emerald green dress and insisted it doesn’t clash with her hair[/caption]In fact, Ella insists that she got the “dull hair gene” of the family as her parents and sister have much more vibrant ginger hair than her.
At first, Amy made the Reddit post because she thought it would convince Ella that she was right – but later shared it with her cousin when it “blew up”.
Ella continued: “After things went south, she decided to try and ‘negotiate’ with me – still completely bizarre as my hair is NOT Merida red.
“My mum and dad called round a few days back to talk about it but got absolutely nowhere with her as she’s still insisting I dye my hair dark brown for the day or get a wig.”
Although her aunt has apologised for Amy’s behaviour, Ella (quite naturally) doesn’t feel comfortable being a bridesmaid any more and wants to boycott the whole wedding entirely.
The bride took to the same internet forum last month and revealed she’d asked her bridesmaid to change her hair colour[/caption]Posting pictures of very similar bridesmaid dresses, she added: “I’ve tired mine on and it absolutely dose not clash at all. I brought and paid for my dress so I don’t owe her anything but our families are so upset that I’m dropping out.
“But if I go I have no choice except to dye my hair as there never was a compromise or middle ground, it was dye it, buy a short brown bob wig or don’t come. She specified it has to be a short brown bob wig for some reason.”
And to make matters worse, Ella even tried temporarily dyeing a small section of her hair brown a month ago like Amy suggested and added: “It is STILL DARK BROWN.”
Considering the reaction Amy had in the forum, it’s hardly surprising that others users took Ella’s side in the matter.
One replied: “Seriously, [you’re not the a******]. Your hair is gorgeous and you shouldn’t change it for anyone, least of all a bridezilla! I’m glad your family is on your side.”
Another added: “Your hair is beautiful and honestly I think she’s probably jealous of your hair which is why she wants you to change it.”
Meanwhile, a third wrote: “The easiest ‘solution’ to the problem the bride invented in her mind would have been something like a simple French roll that pulled the hair up and away from the teal toned dress.
“Even some styling product could deepen the appearance of the colour. Or some light coloured dry shampoo powder to adjust the hue if it’s really an issue.”
