Stockley Park admit they should have sent off Giovani Lo Celso against Chelsea

0

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso was involved in a controversial incident during the second half of the defeat at Chelsea.

After 52 minutes of action at Stamford Bridge, Lo Celso appeared to stand on the leg of Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta.

Despite a stoppage in play VAR check, which showed the Argentine’s making contact with Azpilicueta’s shin, the Spurs player escaped red and was not even booked.

It has now been announced that the VAR team at Stockley Park have now admitted that they got the decision wrong and believe they should have instructed referee Michael Oliver to show Lo Celso a red card.

The initial verdict from Stockley Park was that they felt that Lo Celso had nowhere else to place his foot, describing it as not a clear and obvious error.

News broke during BT Sport’s live coverage of the match on BT Sport 1 HD Live on 22/02/2020 at 14:08 that Spurs should have been reduced to ten men for the duration of the match.
