Last Game Of The Regular Season
Arthurs, LeSergent, and Brown, plus 5 AP’s propelled the Cougars to a win in their final game of the regular season. The Cougars finished the year with 41 wins in 48 games, good for top spot into the league and ensuring home-ice throughout the playoffs.
Their competition on Thursday night was the Saanich Braves, who is also their opponent for the 1st round. Coach Coulter made the call to bring up as many as AP’s as he could for this game. Connor Cozens, Lukas Fikowski, Matteo Pivetta, Jacob Pang, and Kye Mockridge all donned Cougars threads in the last contest.
Brody Coulter was happy to be able to see some possible future Cougars in a real game scenario. While none factored into the scoring, they all contributed.
The game itself was very, soft? It’s kind of hard to dicribe the feeling on the ice. A lot of speculation would be it would get heated as these teams are battling each other just a week from now in games that matter. But ultimately the game wasn’t as hard hitting or fast as I expected. It felt like both teams were actually holding back, waiting for the 27th.
Saanich is probably the most improved team overall since the start of the season. Even downing the Cougars at Pearkes a few weeks ago. So the Braves will put up a fight. The Cougars are heavily favoured to win, but I don’t expect the Braves to roll over.
Whatever happens in Round 1, it will be fun.
Game 1 is February 27th, 7pm at the Arch!
