The Good Place: The 10 Most Hated Supporting Characters

0

In a show like The Good Place, it's hard to say the fans hated any of the main characters. From being Team Cockroach to becoming the Soul Squad, Eleanor, Chidi, Jason, and Tahani won the award for most improved. But, among the supporting characters that made cameos, it was easy to dislike a few.

Whether they were demons or lackluster humans, these supporting cast members didn't win much favor with the audience. Sometimes they were simply hated by the main characters in the show. Whatever the case, these supporting characters couldn't get off the screen soon enough.

10 Brent Norwalk

Brent came to the show late in the game, but his less-than-winning personality immediately made both the fans and other characters hate him. He was the quintessential jerk with a mentality that thrived on sexism, racism, and every prejudice that exists.

What's worse, he doesn't see any problem with his behavior and the way he treats people. What makes Brent so easy to hate is that everyone knows a Brent in real life. More than one, in fact. At least they never show him getting into the Good Place.

9 Chris Baker

The demon disguised as Eleanor's soul mate in Michael's original reboot of the neighborhood experiment left a sour impression on everyone around him. His idiocy in not understanding how to properly fool Eleanor was meant to be funny, but it just came off as obnoxious.

It was especially an insult to Eleanor's brilliance, as Michael thought the demon's aesthetic appeal would be enough to distract her from the truth. Chris was definitely her type, but Eleanor was never dumb enough to fall for his dismal ruse.

8 Vicky

The fans didn't have a dislike of Vicky, but Michael sure did. He brought her on to play the "real" Eleanor in his first version of the experiment, but, when he rebooted it, he had no use for her. Vicky wouldn't go down without a fight, though.

She blackmails Michael into letting her take over. It's that rivalry that sets Michael on his path to becoming good. Later in the series, as they train demons to create the new system, his hatred of Vicky gets in the way of the gang's plans.

7 Tahani’s Parents

Tahani may have been narcissistic and attention-starved, but, to be fair, it stemmed from her parental issues. Her parents made it hard for Tahani to become a good person. They constantly tore her down and compared her to her sister. They made her work for a love that always came with conditions, and that they'd never give anyway.

They may have become better after death and regretted the way they treated their daughters, but it didn't erase the past. No parent should treat their children the way they did.

6 Madison and Brittany

Eleanor's roommates before her untimely demise didn't bring out the best in her. Their childish and selfish behavior fueled Eleanor's worst tendencies, and they were a bad influence on her. Not to mention, the three of them weren't really friends.

They didn't have each other's backs when things got tough, and Eleanor even had t-shirts made from her "friend's" freak out. Brittany and Madison were the kinds of eye-roll-inducing characters that made people want them off the screen as soon as possible. It all made Eleanor's development all the more satisfying.

5 Glenn

It's hard to feel too bad for a demon that spends his time torturing humans, but there is a bit of sympathy for this one. Glenn only ever wants to do his job, but his peers abuse him and treat him like a total idiot. Granted, he's not the brightest bulb, but that doesn't mean he deserves all the hate he gets from Shawn and the other demons.

Even though he performs the same tasks as his co-workers do, they treat him like a brand new intern that needs to earn his way.

4 The Good Place Committee

This is a group of characters, but they move and work so well as one entity it's easy to hate them as one also. The fans find their bureaucratic nonsense hilarious as they showcase the worst parts of trying to do good in real-life by obeying the laws.

But the Soul Squad grows frustrated with them fast. Eleanor is the first to find their inefficiency underwhelming and lacking charm. But, when Chidi grows tired of them, as well, finding their indecisiveness an issue, it's a true testament to how annoying they are.

3 Simone Garnett

On the gang's second chance on Earth, Chidi fell for the neuroscience professor Simone. Many fans found her character annoying. Her relationship with Chidi divided the audience, as it created a tired love triangle between him, Simone, and Eleanor. Some fans felt like she got in the way of the relationship they really cared about.

But Simone's response to her death also turned some off her character. She behaved in a way that didn't make sense. Because she thought it was all in her head, she behaved like a jerk.

2 John Wheaton

Another from the gang's experiment and bet with the judge, John Wheaton presented the worst side of Tahani's world. His gossiping and petty nature almost dragged her back into the muck after all the progress the deceased heiress had made.

But it was the character's lack of development that truly frustrated the audience and made them wish he hadn't been added. John was meant to be a shallow jerk, but he was never meant to be a hollow character. His underwhelming presence didn't leave fans invested in his redemption to get into the Good Place.

1 Kamilah Al-Jamil

Although Kamilah and Tahani made up during Tahani's second round on Earth, it didn't erase the awful way she treated her sister in the past. Kamilah was a product of her parents' rearing, falling for their manipulations and thinking herself better than Tahani.

That constant smug look on her face every time Tahani tried to confront her rubbed fans the wrong way. Kamilah was written to be hated, which made her redemption hard to swallow. It never felt like she did enough to earn Tahani's forgiveness.
