Disgraced Hollywood producer Weinstein found guilty of rape
US movie producer Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty on two counts in his rape trial. He could now receive up to 25 years behind bars.
He has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women, and the allegations against him helped ignite the #MeToo movement that inspired women to go public with misconduct allegations against powerful men.
Local media reported that Weinstein was found guilty of criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree. He was found not guilty on the predatory sexual assault charge and on the first-degree rape charge.
Weinstein had major success with Oscar winners such Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, The King’s Speech and Shakespeare in Love.
However, instead of being taken in prison, he was taken to New York’s Bellevue Hospital suffering from chest pains after the verdict was announced. Critics also blamed him for faking an injury to gain sympathy at the trial.
“He’s under the care of five doctors currently. He’s dealing with the remnants of his back operation which was not successful. He’s in need of the walker”, the defense team said.
