The apartment was built for Sherman Fairchild, who is credited with creating aerial cameras that were used in the Apollo missions to the moon.

Some the the most luxe features in the New York apartment are a library, sitting room, and zig-zag raps that allow multi-floor access.

Pictures show the walls and ceiling covered in intricate floral and patterned wallpaper, with columns adding an iconic Grecian feel.

The third-floor master bedroom features a mirrored ceiling, along with a lush carpet and canopy bed.

A ramp leads up to the third floor sitting room, where a skylight ceiling allows natural light to filter down on the rest of the apartment.

In the middle of a second-floor sitting room, a glass chandelier hangs from the ceiling.

Another bedroom in the Manhattan mansion features a built-in wall of bookcases, and a vaulted ceiling that gives the room a cozy feel.

The apartment also has a library on the first floor, with paintings hanging gallery-style around the room.

Although much of the mansion has a vintage-inspired feel, the kitchen is more modern.

Granite counter tops and tile floors compliment a massive double-door stainless steel fridge.

Christies International Real Estate is handling the sale of the apartment, which was built for Fairchild.

Sherman Fairchild was the only son of long-time IBM chairman George Winthrop Fairchild.

The sole heir to the IBM chairman oversaw aircraft manufacturing company Fairchild Aeronautics during WWI.

He held around 30 patents for camera and radio technology, including the ones used on the Apollo moon mission.

In addition to creating the camera tech used on the Apollo moon mission, Fairchild created the first-ever synchronized camera shutter and flash.
