President Trump praised the accomplishments of African Americans at the annual Black History Month reception, which took place on Thursday at the White House. The president touted African Americans’ military service and announced that the name of the newest aircraft carrier will be the ‘USS Doris Miller.’

He also thanked black conservatives like Candace Owens and Terrance Williams, who have been outspoken supporters of his administration.

The president went on to say African Americans have lifted up the nation and reiterated his promise to continue fighting for black communities.

“In every field, every generation and every calling, African Americans have lifted up our nation to new heights,” stated President Trump. “Like all citizens, you are entitled to a government that puts your needs, your interests and your families first.”

The president recently passed legislation to protect black colleges and universities, in an effort to invest in the future of education for African American communities.
