The Best Workout and Weight Lifting Gloves
Every weightlifter at any level will experience callouses on their hands. Callouses can be a sign of hard work, and they fortify and toughen your hands. But if most of your day is spent shaking hands, typing and writing, you may not want those callouses to be there all the time. Callouses are often caused by the knurled handles of dumbbells and barbells. Those rough grips aren’t just there to cause you discomfort — they help you maintain a secure grip on the bars. But it can be hard to maintain a secure grip if your hands are painfully blistered. Gloves can be a way to keep you lifting without the discomfort.
Some trainers and experienced lifters suggest caution when using gloves. The additional padding reduces the level of control and precision. This can limit the upper range of what you can lift. But it’s also important to find what works for you, and for many lifters, gloves are part of that solution. In addition to reducing callouses, gloves can be beneficial for lifters who are prone to sweaty palms. Even with knurled grips, you can find the bar slipping out of your hands if your palms are too sweaty. Another benefit of gloves is that many of them provide additional support for your wrists.
Many weight lifting gloves will be referred to as workout gloves. That’s because you can also use gloves for a variety of gym workouts, including rowing machines or exercise bikes. Even if today is cardio day, don’t leave your gloves at home.
