Born on December 11th, 1922 Dilip Kumar, one of the finest actor in Bollywood turns 92 today . He made his debut in Jwar Bhata in the year 1944 followed by variety of roles in movies such as Andaz, Aan, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam and Ganga Jamuna. In his entire career he did approximately 60 films and was termed as the ultimate method actor by Satyajit Ray.
There is certain list of movie which Dilip Kumar did and are real nuggets which will remain embedded in history for the excellent storyline, chart buster songs and mesmerizing performances.
Dilip Kumar portrayed character roles in the year 1976 in films Krnati, Shakti, Karma, Saudagar and Qila. 1. Mughal-e-Azam (1960)
In this epic movie, Dilip Kumar was seen portraying the character of Salim who falls madly in love with Madhubala who plays the character of Anarkali aka Nadira who is the court-dancer. It is said that in the initial stage Dilip was rejected for playing the character of Salim, but later took on the role upon insistence by the film producer. The whole look of the film is amazing including Dilip Kumar’s attire in the entire film looks like a Bollywood classic. Dilip Kumar’s role of Prince Salim was just perfect and raises the standard of love stories in B-town.
2. Devdas (1955)
This movie is based on Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel and the storyline revolves around the tragic love story and its lover – Dilip Kumar. One can say this was Dilip’s best movie which helped him rank at the 2nd position on University of Iowa’s List of Top 10 Bollywood Films. Dilip played the character of Devdas whose childhood love is Paro (Suchitra Sen).
3. Ganga Jamuna (1961)
This film was produced by Dilip Kumar where the entire focus was on him who played the character of an innocent man and was forced to become a dacoit. This is Kumar’s another best movie where he won several awards for his dedicated performances. He played the character of Ganga who is shown as a hard-working fellow and who is not at all afraid from the zamindars. This film brought out the best from Dilip and was honored with best actor award.
4. Daag (1952)
This was after which he was honoured with the first ever Film fare awards in the best actor category for his performance in the movie. The character of Shankar was played by Dilip Kumar, who earns money by selling mud toys.
5. Naya Daur (1957)
Dilip Kumar played the character of Shankar – tongawallahs who petitions the landlord over their injustice. The film received both commercial and critical success.
