Kailash Satyarthi & Malala Yousafzai receives Nobel Peace Prize 2014: Watch full speech video
December 10 saw Indian child right activist Kailash Satyarthi and Pakistan women rights activist Malala Yousufzai winning the joint-awardees of the Nobel Peace Prize 2014. Well, it may seem like the stuff of dreams for an Indian-Pakistan pair to be the joint-award winner of Nobel Peace Prize, but it is now a reality. Satyarthi delivered a soul stirring speech where he received the award at Oslo Hall in Norway. The surprising element in his speech was that the joint-Nobel Prize winner began his speech in Hindi. *wink*
Kailash Satyarthi began his speech addressing all the children in the world. After the usual salutations, Satyarthi called the joint-winner Malala as her daughter. Satyarthi said, “We all should work together, be it economic or social issues, from east to west, north to south, everyone should work towards a common goal and no one should be left behind.” (Also watch video: Kailash Satyarthi’s Bachpan Bachao Andolan says #DontLookAway!)
The Indian child activist also thanked his late parents, and saluted the Dharti Mata (Mother Earth) also. Kailash Satyarthi said that he hails from the lands of Lord Gautam Buddha, Guru Nanak and Mahtama Gandhi. Satyarthi said that he comes from a land which has been a symbol of world peace and humanity and hopes that this journey to western world connects well in the benefit of social harmony. In a major shock to the audience, Kailash Satyarthi said, “The Nobel Committee has generously invited me to present a lecture, but respectfully I am unable to do that. I am here to represent the sound of silence, the cry of innocence, and the face of invisibility.” Satyarthi further added, “I represent those millions of people those have been left behind. And that is why I kept an empty chair there (pointing to his seat) so as to remind us as a reminder. (Also watch video: Nobel Peace Prize 2014 winner Kailash Satyarthi interview)
In his nerve wrenching speech in the Oslo Hall Kailash Satyarthi said, “I have come here only to share voices and dreams of those children. I have looked into their frightened and jostled eyes. I have held their injured bodies and felt their broken spirits.” The crowd gave a rousing round of applause.
The 60-year-old Satyarthi, who runs an NGO Bachpan Bachao Aandolan (Save Childhood Movement) in India that has been in the forefront of rescuing children from forced labour and trafficking.
