Toy Story 4: 10 Things That Make No Sense About Bo Peep

0

In 2019, Pixar and Disney came together for the fourth installment of the Toy Story franchise. Unlike the other Toy Story movies, the fourth movie saw the toys in a place we've never seen them before, especially for Woody. When Bonnie stops playing with Woody and creates a spork-friend named Forky, the toys go on an epic adventure to make sure Forky stays with Bonnie to keep her happy.

Along the way, Woody runs into an old friend who ends up saving the day and changing Woody's life forever: Bo Peep. Bo Peep, however, isn't the same Bo Peep we met in 1995. She got a total makeover and was thriving as a lost toy. And while the movie was a hit (the film hit over $1 billion), there were a few things that didn't make sense with little miss Bo Peep.

10 Why Didn't Bo And Jessie Ever Interact?

Believe it or not, Jessie and Bo Peep don't interact much throughout the Toy Story franchise. Considering their relationship with both Woody and Buzz, it makes you wonder why these two aren't closer? It's confusing, really. What confused fans, even more, was an interview between Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulos and Annie Potts (Bo Peep). He asked Annie, "When we last saw Bo Peep, she was trying to choose between Woody and Buzz.

Caught in a little bit of a love triangle. Does she choose?” However, that wasn't necessarily how the prior Toy Story movies went down. Bo Peep was grateful for Buzz but she always loved Woody. And Jessie never had romantic feelings for Woody, just Buzz. Did the two toy-women not like each other? It makes you wonder if Jessie and Bo Peeps's first interaction on-screen in Toy Story 4 was because they were saying goodbye yet again and didn't need to be around each other.

9 What Made Bo Want A New Life Full Of Independence?

Some fans were a little surprised that Bo enjoyed being a lost toy because when we first met her in the first Toy Story, she was very loyal to Andy and the other toys. She was soft-spoken, absent, and a little timid. Yet in the 2019 film, Bo is the complete opposite.

She's fiercely independent, curious, and ready for adventure. It makes you wonder what changed for Bo that made her want a life on-the-run. Even Annie Potts (the voice of Bo Peep) said, "She's changed a lot! She's grown up. She's been on a journey that's been challenging and she has lived up to it by finding all her interior strength to go on and still has a life full of purpose...It's very inspiring." In Toy Story 4, Bo calls the shots over Woody.

8 How Long Has She Been Lost Again?

Sadly, Bo Peep's timeline has some gaping holes. In a flashback scene, we learn that Bo was taken away from Andy's home nine years ago. She was thrown into a box and seemingly donated on a cold, rainy night. However, when she runs into Woody again in Toy Story 4, she tells him she's been lost for seven years.

Now, this could be Bo's definition of lost (perhaps she felt lost for seven out of those nine years) but it seems like a silly goof on Pixar and Disney's part.

7 Was She Molly's Or Andy’s Toy?

When we first meet Bo in the first Toy Story, she was categorized as Andy's little sister, Molly's, toy. She came with three sheep and was attached to an adorable bedside lamp. Oddly enough, throughout the franchise, Bo is actually considered to be one of Andy's toys.

In Toy Story 2, we see Bo sneaking out of Molly's room looking for Andy when he lost his hat but we saw Andy play with Bo more than Molly did. Even at the beginning of Toy Story 4, Bo was even chucked in the "Andy's Toys" box. Perhaps this was foreshadowing for Bo; she was always being tossed around and not properly loved.

6 And Where Was She In The Third Movie?

Bo Peep has a leading role in Toy Story 4. In fact, she's instrumental to the film's success. Without Bo's help, Woody wouldn't have been able to get Forky back to Bonnie. She also wouldn't have been able to save Woody's free spirit if she wasn't in the film. But what makes the fourth film a little screwy is that Bo wasn't even in the third movie.

There was no lead-up to Bo at all. She just simply reappeared. Pixar creatives mentioned they intentionally left Bo out of the third movie because they didn't think she'd be physically up to it with her porcelain body but she does just as much physical activity in the fourth movie!

5 The Eyes Have It

It's no secret that when we met Bo again in the fourth film, she had an incredible makeover. Obviously, with time, Pixar's graphics only get better and better but Bo's difference in appearance was more than just graphics. She ditched the skirt and started wearing pants; she had a detachable skirt that also turned into a cape, and she tossed her bonnet to the side for a chicer headband.

Bo became a strong, empowering figure since we last saw her in the second film. But there was one thing Bo couldn't change about herself (she was a toy, after all) that was different. Her eye shape was larger, the blue color in her eyes shifted, and she now appears to have eyeliner!

4 Wasn’t Bo Supposed To Be A Southern Belle?

If you take the time to binge-watch all four Toy Story movies, you'll notice a shift in Bo Peep's accent. In the first movie, Bo's voice is so proper and defined with a subtle Southern twist. In Toy Story 4, there's no Southern accent to be heard.

There's a deleted scene that never made it out of the drawing-room called "Black Friday." It was supposed to be in the first Toy Story after the toys think Woody pushed Buzz out the window. In the scene, Bo can be heard talking to Woody in a very heavy Southern accent but it appears the accent didn't stick because it's undetectable in the fourth movie.

3 Wasn’t Bo Right-Handed?

Sadly, we can't ask toys if they're ambidextrous but we are questioning Bo's strong hand. In the first two Toy Story movies, Bo is typically seen carrying her crook with her right hand. In most promotional pictures, she's holding her crook in her right hand with her three sheep by her side.

But in Toy Story 4, Bo has the crook in her left hand throughout the movie. Is this because she injured her right arm and had to rely on her left arm more?

2 Weren’t Bo And Woody Supposed To Be A Team?

Bo's strong personality resonated with many of the movie's' female audiences but there were a few fans on Reddit who couldn't get used to the new Bo. They saw her as condescending when she called Woody her accessory because weren't they a team? Weren't they after the same goal?

For years, Bo was seen as the damsel in distress; the gal that Woody always had to save when Andy was playing with them. But in this film, it was Bo who was doing all the saving. These online fans thought her new 'lost toy' mentality went to her head and she became too domineering instead of a teammate.

1 Bo’s Broken Arm Wasn’t Discussed In Toy Story 4

When Woody runs into Bo on the playground, the two get into a tussle and Woody accidentally pulls Bo's arm off. The two scream in horror but Bo gets the last laugh because it was all a joke. She said her arm snaps off "happens all the time"but there's no backstory to it in the movie. No one knows why Bo's arm keeps falling off but she does secure it with tape when the moment strikes.

In January of the year, however, a short film called Lamp Life came out and suggested that because of Bo's porcelain body, she was prone to breaks and scratches from the various homes she lived in and the antique store.
