Why Too Hot To Handle Will Be A Bigger Netflix Hit Than Love Is Blind
Netflix released its trailer for Too Hot To Handle on Friday, and it is going to be a bigger hit than Love Is Blind. That's a tall order, but it's going to happen.
Love Is Blind was a Top 10 Netflix show until only a few weeks ago, despite being released all the way back on February 13. It was extremely popular, containing a little bit of everything that other successful reality dating shows possess. Two of the couples - Lauren and Cameron Hamilton and Amber and Matt Barnett - were married at the end of the show. Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers got back together after filming wrapped. The remainder of the couples either ended their courtship in the finale or have since split. It has stayed popular longer than most shows, partially due to the fact that COVID-19 has made everyone stay home for the time being and simultaneously flock to their streaming services. But since enough time has passed, it's time for another hit dating reality show to take over. Enter Too Hot To Handle.
One of the flaws of Love Is Blind is that it started out with too many contestants. We never got to know anything about a majority of the cast. Other shows, like Temptation Island, have similar issues. That won't be the case in Too Hot To Handle. There are only 10 contestants. And the twist actually sounds super interesting. Put 10 super attractive, ostensibly horny individuals in the same living quarters, and things are bound to get tense. There have been countless other reality shows that have tied in romance with a cash prize. But this concept may be a novel approach, even if on its face it looks like another Love Island.
As one of the contestants says in the trailer, "It's not easy to go an extended period of time without any sexual release." It is like Love Is Blind in that it purports to prioritize the emotional connection ahead of the physical one. The difference is with Love Is Blind, the second segment of the show - the pre-honeymoon in Mexico - was specifically designed for exploring the physical side of the relationship. With Too Hot To Handle, there appears to be no such opportunity.
The enticing part will see which contestants can keep it in their proverbial pants long enough to walk away with a respectable monetary reward. If the trailer is any indication, not every man and woman will be able to keep their hands off one another.
