Nioh 2: New Update Patch Fixes Underpowered & Broken Abilities

0

A new Nioh 2 patch is aimed mostly at making a variety of the game’s collectible Yokai abilities more powerful, along with a few other gameplay tweaks and bug fixes. Even with the new buffs to abilities, Nioh 2 is still an incredibly challenging game, so new players should go into it expecting their skills to be put to the test.

While its high difficulty may prove to be too much for some players, Nioh 2 was well received upon its release, earning 4.5/5 stars from Screen Rant. Like the first game in the series, it builds on the Soulslike formula, adding more in-depth fighting styles and skills trees, and basing its story on Japanese history and folklore. While it can take a lot of work to understand the game’s intricacies and make the most of Nioh 2's dense skill system, it’s a rewarding experience for players who are willing to put in the time to master it.

Thanks to a new update, players who were having a hard time with Nioh 2 will find things slightly easier going forward. Developer Team Ninja recently released patch 1.08 and detailed the changes it contains on Twitter. The focus of the patch is adjusting Yokai abilities, which must be earned by collecting sometimes hard to find Yokai cores, mostly to make them more powerful. Nearly 20 Yokai abilities were affected by the patch, generally making them easier to land hits with, shortening the time it takes for them to recharge, or improving their damage potential. Only two abilities, the Otakemaru and Karakasa Umbrella Soul Cores, had their power reduced by the update, lowering their damage against certain targets.

On top of the Yokai ability buffs, Nioh 2 patch 1.08 also increased the drop rate of several Soul Cores, making it easier to find some abilities in the first place. Several weapon skills not requiring Soul Cores were also improved. In addition, several skills that were found not to be working as intended were fixed. Some skills, such as Serpent Strike, will be more powerful after the patch, while others including The Path of Three will now be a little less effective, as they were originally envisioned.

The latest Nioh 2 patch addresses dozens of different Yokai abilities and other skills, along with squashing dozens of bugs. While nothing in the patch notes suggests that it will feel much different to play the game for most people, players who had built their characters around some of the specific skills targeted may find it a little easier to survive now.
