John Legend and Sam Smith Duet on ‘Stand By Me’ During ‘One World’ Concert
John Legend and Sam Smith once again put their voices together for charity. This time, it was for the Lady Gaga-curated One World: Together at Home concert on Saturday (April 18), which aired simultaneously on multiple networks and streaming services.
The two award-winning musicians performed a duet of Ben E. King’s popular 1961 hit “Stand By Me” while in self-isolation from their respective homes. Legend played the piano while sitting on front of a wall adorned with his numerous trophies, belting out the lyrics with a gentle smile on his face. Smith, meanwhile, swayed from side to side while singing.
Prior to One World, the two artists put their voices together for the English singer’s hit “Lay Me Down” in 2015 for Red Nose Day, which was also the charity event’s official single.
The One World concert was put together to celebrate healthcare works on the front lines of the global coronavirus pandemic and is a collaboration between Global Citizen and the World Health Organization. It featured numerous performances and appearances by celebrities and has so far raised $50 million.
