Coronavirus: Kuwaiti Emir calls on public adhere to preventative measures

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah urged the public to adhere to the preventative measures issued by the Ministry of Health to curb the coronavirus outbreak in a televised speech on Sunday.

The emir also expressed his joy over the return of Kuwaiti nationals as part of the country’s repatriation plan to bring back stranded citizens from countries around the world.

Globally, airports have shut down and flights have been halted to curb the outbreak.

Sheikh Sabah congratulated the families of the repatriated citizens, adding that all the people in the country had been waiting for their return.

An unnamed source told Kuwaiti newspaper Alqabas newspaper last week that Kuwait plans to repatriate 40,000 of its citizens on 188 flights between April 16-25.

The emir advised all returning citizens to self-isolate at home for a period no less than 14 days to prevent spreading the virus in case they have been infected.

Kuwait has so far reported 1,915 confirmed cases of coronavirus and seven virus-related deaths.
