You Tube Gold: The Greatness Of JJ Redick
Despite the off-court pressures, Redick was a phenomenal player at Duke.
Since we talked about JJ Redick’s unease with the intense Duke hatred he experienced, we thought it would be a good time to remember just why people hated him so: because he was a devastating force on the court. He could easily go off for 25 points in a half.
He went through a lot of jerseys during his career because people were constantly hanging on it.
We saw a picture of one after just one game - it could never be worn again. Redick scared the hell out of people. He was the Man With The Golden Arm.
We were aware of the abuse he suffered, the worst of it coming at the hands of Maryland fans, but had no idea of the cost. Obviously it’s in the past now but the abuse of his sisters is still outrageous.
Keep in mind that at the end of his sophomore year, not long after he told his sisters that he wanted to quit, that Coach K called him into the office and told him that he was not worthy of winning a national championship.
We again don’t know how these things affected him exactly but when he came back for his junior season, he was a different player. Since then he’s become a role model for hard work and effort and has become a highly respected NBA player.
