SAMIR NASRI is set to be axed by Anderlecht after the former Arsenal star fled to Dubai and failed to virtually contact his employers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Belgian outlet Derniere Huere via AS, Nasri has failed to contact the club while in isolation and appears to have gone AWOL.

The club have asked players to inform them of their movements and training schedule while in lockdown and are even using a specialist training app to monitor sessions.

Reportedly every player apart from ex Sevilla star Nasri has so far conformed to the new way of doing things.

On April 2 the Belgian Pro League became the first major European league to be cancelled due to coronavirus with Club Brugges declared champions courtesy of their 15 point lead at the top.

Deadly Covid-19 has brought global sport to a shuddering halt but athletes continue to train at home and Nasri’s failure to communicate looks set to cost him his place at Anderlecht.

The French international has seen his career go into landslide since fading into the background at Manchester City but was handed a lifeline by his ex City team-mate Vincent Kompany in the summer.

A free agent after an underwhelming short-term spell at West Ham, 32-year-old Nasri was offered a contract at Anderlecht by player-manager Kompany.

The pair spent five years together at the Etihad but after yet another disappointing season Nasri may not have seen his deal extended by Kompany – but now he is virtually guaranteed to be shown the door.

The former Premier League playmaker scored two goals in just eight appearances as once again his fitness proved a stumbling block.

Nasri was previously banned for 18 months for undergoing an intravenous drip treatment at a Los Angeles clinic while on loan at Sevilla from City.
