Afghan forces repel Taliban attack, retake port from militants in Jawzjan

The Afghan forces repelled a Taliban attack and retook a port from the Taliban militants during an operation in northern Jawzjan province.

The 209th Shaheen Corps in a statement said the Taliban militants were looking to launch attacks using the Kelefit Port in Qarqeen district of Jawzjan province.

The statement further added that the Afghan forces conducted preemptive raids, repelling the Taliban attack and retaking the control of the port.

The Taliban group has not commented in this regard so far.

The security situation in northern Jawzjan province has deteriorated during the recent years.

The anti-government armed militants are active in some of its districts and often attempt to carry out attacks against the government and security forces.
