Nearly 90% of Brits backs Boris Johnson’s coronavirus lockdown measures & majority think economy-hit is worth it
THE vast majority of Brits overwhelming back Boris Johnson’s lockdown measures in the battle to defeat coronavirus.
In a One Poll survey for The Sun, 89 per cent of Brits support the Government’s shut down of normal life.

And 79 per cent think the measures are worthwhile even if it means the UK takes a massive hit on the economy.
Three quarters (75 per cent) of Brits think schools should stay closed, but almost a quarter (24 per cent) think some measures could be relaxed.
It also reveals that there is broad support for the government with 43 per cent of the population believing that the government have handled the coronavirus outbreak “as well as can be expected in a crisis.”
Only nine per cent think the government has done very badly.
The poll shows that nearly a third (31 per cent) expect the lockdown will actually be lifted in June, while a quarter believe the lockdown should be lifted when the number of deaths falls below 200 a day.
Eight in 10 believe that NHS staff should get a pay rise after the crisis is over but 68 per cent don’t believe NHS staff are getting everything they need in order to fight coronavirus.
This afternoon a Downing Street spokesperson welcomed the poll and said: “We are hugely grateful for the extraordinary efforts of the British people who are continuing to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives.

The UK coronavirus death toll today surpassed 16,000 as fatalities increased by 596.
Health authorities confirmed 16,060 people had died in hospitals across the country as infections rose by 5,850 to 120,067.
In just 24 hours, 784 deaths in England were confirmed yesterday, including patients between 26 and 100-years-old, bringing the total to 13,918.
Among those who died after catching the disease was a 44-year-old with no underlying health conditions.
Scotland’s death toll rose to 893 – rising by 56 – while Wales recorded 28 new deaths bringing their total to 534.
