Netflix's Love, Death & Robots: The 10 Best Episodes (According to IMDb)
Netflix has come up with some very original content in the past few years. But nothing can quite compare to what fans have come to know as Love, Death & Robots, a collection of animated short stories that span several different genres and styles of animation. And one never quite knows what to expect when it's time to tune in for a new episode.
Ranging from comedy to science-fiction, fantasy, horror and drama, there is a little bit of something for everyone in Love, Death & Robots. The versatility of the show grants it an extremely broad audience that is now anxiously awaiting a new season to hit the screens. While you wait, take a look at the ten best episodes of the animated series, ranked according to IMDb.
10 Shape-Shifters: 7.5/10
One of the things that Love, Death & Robots does best is it takes tropes that have been beaten to a pulp and finds a way to make them awesome again. "Shape-Shifters" is a great example of this, digging into the werewolf mythology in a completely new and exciting manner.
The CGI in this episode is mind-blowing, and the fight scenes are simply too good to be true. The biggest flaw of this episode is, much like others in the series, that is simply too short. Make it a movie!
9 Helping Hand: 7.5/10
As far as Love, Death & Robots' episodes go, "Helping Hand" is one of those with the biggest potential to make viewers extremely uncomfortable. But at the same time, it's almost impossible to look away.
This extremely short story centers around an astronaut's journey who finds herself stuck in a...sticky situation. It's life and death: she must choose between keeping a limb or dying from lack of oxygen. It's as brutal as it is beautifully executed.
8 Lucky 13: 7.5/10
Unless your keen on the idea of robots having their own version of feelings, this might not be the episode for you. Actually, this might not be the show for you at all. But if you love the idea, then this episode will definitely speak to you.
The idea of a drop-ship named Lucky 13 forming a sentimental bond with its pilot can be either endearing or annoying. But the consensus is obvious: "Lucky 13" is a simple, yet emotional episode with plenty of action in between.
7 The Witness: 7.8/10
There really isn't a good way to explain this episode. It's so unique and colorful one might almost forget the complete mind-bending nature of the plot, that centers around a woman running from a man she saw committing murder.
The animation is up there with some of the best in the entire season, and the plot twist at the end is jaw-dropping. It will leave audiences wondering if they actually paid enough attention or were simply too distracted by everything else.
6 Three Robots: 8/10
The self-awareness present throughout the course of "Three Robots" is both hilarious and slightly frightening. As three robots embark on an excursion to learn about the extinction of humankind, viewers are forced to face what can very well become a reality.
It still remains one of the most comedic episodes of the bunch, particularly due to the cat twist no one could've seen coming. The mix between the feeling of discomfort and amusement is further proof of how good the show truly is.
5 Good Hunting: 8.1/10
"Good Hunting" is perhaps the episode that feels the most out of place in the series. However, the longer you spend being immersed in this world where shape-shifters and spirit hunters are a thing, the more it grows on you.
Based on a story by best selling Chinese author Ken Liu, "Good Hunting" does a wonderful job of translating this piece into the screen. It's moving and sweet, something that is often lacking in Love, Death & Robots.
4 The Secret War: 8.1/10
Russian soldiers in Siberia during World War II fighting against alien enemies? Sign everyone up, because that just sounds incredible. And surprise, surprise - it is.
Completely impartial to any political standing, "The Secret War" instead focuses on spectacular animation, amazing fight scenes, and an overall plot that could very well be picked up as a feature film.
3 Sonnie's Edge: 8.3/10
The amount of twists and turns that are present in "Sonnie's Edge" are enough to make someone's head start spinning. The premise alone is phenomenal - an underground ring of fights between beasts controlled by humans.
Sonnie never loses, but no one can figure out what's her edge. When a very bad man sets to attempt to find out, things don't go quite as expected. Talk about an award-worthy plot twist!
2 Zima Blue: 8.3/10
The story of the great artist Zima is told to the audience from the perspective of a journalist who is also a great fan. Zima created his own particular shade of blue and went through several procedures to become more machine than man and be able to wander around the cosmos.
This episode will take us on Zima's final journey...and the secrets that we find out along the way are, to say the least, quite surprising. And the animation style? Superb doesn't even cover it.
1 Beyond the Aquila Rift: 8.6/10
Love, Death & Robots had already proved it could provide the audience with unbelievable CGI, but "Beyond the Aquila Rift" completely blows any expectations out of the park.
And paired with fact is a narrative that shifts from pure sci-fi into something completely different in a heartbeat, giving birth to an ending that will hit harder than any other on the show. A true masterpiece.
