Harry Potter: 10 Harry Cosplays That Look Just Like The Movies

0

The perfect cosplay is not all that hard, but it’s tricky when you are trying to dress up as a character who may have single-handedly re-defined modern cosplay culture. Yes, we’re obviously talking about Harry Potter. Interestingly fans have often taken the Harry costume for granted, but it’s not just about the glasses, scar, wand, and the undone tie. You obviously need to get the details right and maybe bring in some personal improvisations.

And that’s exactly where a cosplayer’s imagination comes into play. Since every cosplayer can now chronicle their looks on social media, it’s very easy to come up with a makeshift set or even some cool props to recreate a moment. But what are some of most flawless and perfect Harry Potter cosplays? Here’s taking a look:

10 Potter, Is That You?

Over the years Pottermaniacs have perfected their favorite cosplays to a level which is quite honestly a little unfair. It almost makes us feel that Potterverse may be real! This one flawless look, which we found at the Cosplay Italia page, is all kinds of unbeatable.

It works because there are not too many elements in place, and the cosplayer focuses on a few essentials. The hair is perfect; Harry did have the disheveled overgrown bowl cut for the first two films. The glasses too are absolutely spot on, and so is the unkempt uniform.

9 Mr. Impressive

This one cosplay, which we found on Reddit, works for us on many different counts. Not only is the costume exactly perfect (this is the exact jacket and tee Harry was wearing during that fateful night in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban when he met Sirius), but the physicality is remarkably similar.

The cosplayer makes the best use of the cropped wig by angling it, so it looks great from a 90-degree angle and resembles Harry’s Chapter 3 chop. Plus, we love the illuminating wand pen considering the lit wand played such a crucial role in the entire narrative.

8 Here Come The Potters

Cosplayer Linn Core seldom has a misstep when it comes to cosplay; she can switch between Harry Potter to Chrono in a heartbeat and is obviously a pro by now.

Interestingly Linn is also a cosplay photographer, so she really knows how angles work; in this particular picture, for instance, Linn and his co-cosplayer Zakhadari, who plays Ginny Weasley stands slightly asymmetrical so Ginny’s wig can really do the talking. Harry is made to hunch a little, so he appears shorter than Ginny as he was slightly shorter than Ginny in the films

7 What if?

We had to feature this look by cosplayer Sepulchrie just because of the sheer intensity of the assembled cosplay. Pro cosplayers always insist that when it comes to a tricky or a mainstream look, a secondary character can really help bring out the vibe of the look.

We’ve seen thousands of Harry, Ron with Hermione cosplays, but too few Harry and Malfoy cosplays. This is a perfect fit, because we can tell who is who and both of these looks have a really punchy aesthetic, the kind of vibe you’d find in a Slytherin’s official Instagram page perhaps.

6 It’s Spot-On!

Cosplayer Ellie P recently put up a Harry Potter cosplay on her page where she teams up with someone cosplaying Draco Malfoy. The look works on many levels but mainly clicks with the fanbase because the cosplayers take certain liberties to make their look more fun.

Like Malfoy has a really stylish crop and even a black punky piercing; Potter, on the other hand, pairs his cape and Gryffindor sweater with some denim. Plus, the pair re-creates the really dynamic Harry vs. Draco fight, only this time, it’s a lot more stylized and in the open air too.

5 The Boy Who Lived - Under The Stairs

We don’t know what it is about this cosplay that strikes such an instant chord in fans; maybe it’s the fact that we don’t get a lot of cosplays themed around memorable moments or places (mainly because it’s difficult to carry a staircase around Comic-Con!).

But Harry finally getting a Hogwarts letter in his room under the stairs is not something cosplayers usually focus on, though it makes for a terrific cosplay moment. So this one where Harry is away from the Dursleys’ prying eyes and looks at the letter which is about to change his life is a really special one for Pottermaniacs. Unfortunatly, the cosplayer behind this piece is isn't present on social media.

4 TheMarauder's Map

We love this cosplay selfie because if Harry and the Weasley twins discovered the Marauder's Map in 2020, they would have whipped out their phones for a selfie. This spontaneous selfie almost drags the Potter-verse into the Gen-Z era!

But on a serious note, recreating iconic or beloved moments from the franchise instead of just copying a look is a great idea. This curation by Cosplayer Zoe, who goes by the handle aesthetic_katpaws, is so relevant because it doesn’t overthink any of the details and works along simple lines. And the knock-off map may just be real!

3 Hedwig Is Back!

The Instagram page of Herculosis is a treasure trove of Harry Potter cosplay. The cosplayer doesn’t just dress up as Harry, but she has even cosplayed characters from the Fantastic Beasts series and what he thinks some grown Harry Potter characters will dress like.

This particular Harry cosplay is so special because it brings all the right elements together and does so in a very effortless way, and also really plays up the element of nostalgia. It shows Harry in Diagon Alley with Hedwig, and it’s fantastically edited by the cosplayer herself.

2 It Has To Be Harry!

If we ran into cosplayer Jay T while she wore this look we’d have totally mistaken her for ‘The Boy Who Lived.’ Not only does she have a smile that’s uncannily similar to Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, but has also aced the hair and the sweater from the Sorcerer's Stone climax.

She picked this look for last year’s Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle and got a chance to pose with none other than Rupert ‘Weasley’ Grint, who made an appearance! The cosplayer even posed with quite a few other cosplayers from the Potter-verse; check out her page for the rest of the pictures!

1 Raise Your Wand

Another great pick from Herculosis’ page would be this look, which is stunning and perhaps one of the best Potter cosplays we’ve come across. The cosplayer wears the same suede leather jacket that Harry wears through The Deathly Hallows Part 2 and poses with her wand up.

In the movie, Harry never really raises his wand, except to attack Voldemort, but the entire edit is gorgeous and really well-planned. Herculosis did quite a few cosplays in this costume and makeup, and they are all over her Instagram page!
