Star Wars: Original Trilogy Characters Sorted Into Their Hogwarts House Combinations
Rebel or Imperial? Jedi or Sith? Star Wars has always sorted its characters into categories based on their political goals and personal views of morality. There are heroes and tyrants, freedom fighters and fascists, scoundrels and princesses.
Star Wars has countless, memorable roles that help weave stories of hope, love, and rebellion, but there is so much more to the complexity of these rich characters than just the groups that they join. Let's see what qualities make them who they are by checking out how the main players of the original trilogy would be sorted into their Hogwarts House combinations.
10 Han Solo – Hufflepuff/Gryffindor
Han talks big game about ambition and self-preservation, so he may seem like a Slytherin at first glance - and that's probably what he would want the galaxy to think about him. The thing is that Han is all talk.
The smuggler has chance after chance to betray his friends for his own safety or materialistic rewards, and instead, he throws himself into danger to protect them (while grumbling every step of the way). Han appears rough around the edges, but deep down he's a loyal friend and a big softie.
9 Leia Organa – Slytherin/Gryffindor
She may be a Princess, but Leia Organa of Alderaan is not a woman to be taken lightly. Mess with her, and you'll regret it. Her primary houses are easily Slytherin and Gryffindor. This is one brave lady that isn't afraid to take risks.
Leia is a born leader with endless ambitions for the good of the galaxy. She always steps up when she's needed, and she doesn't shy away from the difficult decisions. She chooses the greater good, rather than being led solely by her emotions.
8 C-3PO – Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff
As a protocol droid, C-3PO and encyclopedic knowledge go hand in hand, but an extensive memory bank is not all there is to this worry-prone droid. Threepio is extremely fearful and any hint of conflict makes him anxious.
He makes use of his intelligence as often as possible, including his knowledge of hundreds of languages and detailed histories of alien cultures, but if his advice is rejected, he always follows where his friends lead - even if it's straight into danger.
7 R2-D2 – Gryffindor/Ravenclaw
If there was ever a true-blue Gryffindor, it's R2-D2. This little astromech is sparkplug - literally and figuratively. Unlike his droid counterpart, C-3PO, R2 is fearless and is often the first to rush into a battle zone.
Despite constantly finding himself in trouble, he is also just as smart at getting himself and his friends out of sticky situations. He manages this all while being as sassy and confident as a droid that only communicates in beeps and bloops can be!
6 Darth Vader – Slytherin/Gryffindor
Darth Vader is an armor-clad villain shrouded in mystery. Even before the audience gets a more detailed history of Anakin Skywalker in the prequel series, Vader has very stark Slytherdor traits. He is bold, proud, ambitious, and quick to anger, far more likely to force-choke a man than have a civil conversation.
In the original trilogy, he has reached a position of considerable power. Though he is fiercely dedicated to the Emperor, he shows his Gryffindor heroism by defying his master to protect his son.
5 Luke Skywalker – Hufflepuff/Gryffindor
Young Luke is naive, idealistic, and dreams of adventure beyond the sandy dunes of Tatooine. He would much rather race his speeder or hang out with his friends than do chores around the farm with his uncle and aunt, and he has a difficult time understanding when things don't go his way.
Let's face it, Luke is a bit of a whiner, but he is a devoted friend with a strong moral code. Risks don't seem to phase him when he knows what he's doing is right, and he will gladly march himself into harm's way to protect his loved ones.
4 Ben Kenobi - Gryffindor/Ravenclaw
Spending years in isolation has made him a bit of a grump, but Old Ben Kenobi is reliable and quickwitted. Luke may think he sounds like a confused old man at first, but Ben has the smarts and experience to back up all of his plans.
Even when they are in dangerous situations, Ben remains calm and collected. The old Jedi is content to rely on his training and intellect to guide him through his journeys, but is always ready to take the lead to protect others and fight for what is right if that's what is necessary.
3 Emperor Palpatine – Slytherin/Ravenclaw
Emperor Palpatine is a truly evil force to be reckoned with, and easily comparable to Harry Potter's Lord Voldemort. Palpatine is obsessed with his ambitions to rule the galaxy and has amassed his own army that he is using to do just that. He is arrogant, narcissistic, and seems to delight in cruelty.
The Emperor is strong in the Dark Side of the force, but it takes more than that to gain control of the galaxy. Emperor Palpatine is a talented manipulator, and is more than willing to patiently wait for the best moment to enact his carefully calculated plans.
2 Chewbacca – Hufflepuff/Gryffindor
There should be a big picture of Chewbacca next to the dictionary definition of "loyalty". This towering Wookiee sticks by Han's side through thick and thin. Chewie is an eager warrior, and is as comfortable hand to hand using his brute strength to toss his enemies as he is with a high powered blaster gripped in his furry paws.
While he does have a fiery temper to match his stature, Chewbacca is softhearted and caring once he's made an ally. He feels pain and love just as deeply as any human - maybe even more deeply.
1 Lando Calrissian – Slytherin/Hufflepuff
This roguish, smooth-talking schemer is a polarizing figure in Star Wars history. Lando is introduced as one of Han Solo's best friends and a fellow smuggler, but the rug is quickly pulled out from beneath the audience when it becomes clear that he has sold Han out to torture and even death.
This may seem unfeeling, but the surprising reason for Lando's betrayal is loyalty and empathy. He cares about his old friend, but if he has to trade one man to protect all of Cloud City from destruction, to him it's a necessary sacrifice.
