Parasite: The Characters Sorted Into Their Hogwarts Houses
Bong Joon-ho's Parasite was mind-blowing. It thus came as no surprise when the South Korean film became the first non-English film to win Best Picture at the Oscars. Parasite also won over 100 accolades across different award organizations, a feat that had never been achieved by any other non-American film.
The movie was praised for its fast pace, fascinating plot angles and detailed character development. All of Parasite's main characters had unique, and sometimes weird mannerisms. This makes them perfect candidates for the Hogwarts houses. Without further delay, here is where the cast of Parasite would find themselves in Hogwarts' houses and why.
10 Kim Ki-woo/Kevin - Ravenclaw
As the only son of the Kim family, Kim Ki-woo is the person who sets all the events in motion. His buddy Min-hyuk who is leaving to study abroad recommends him for his former job as an English tutor for the daughter of the wealthy Mr and Mrs Park.
Kim Ki-woo belongs to House Ravenclaw because he embodies intelligence and knowledge. He presents a fake certificate from Yonsei University in Seoul, impresses Mrs. Kim during the interview and goes on to become an excellent tutor. He also teaches his sister how to win the trust of the Kims and after she succeeds, the rest of the family follow the same route.
9 Kim Ki-taek - Slytherin
Kim Ki-taek is the father in the Kim family. He belongs to House Slytherin because he is super cunning. Out of all his family members, he has the most detailed and well-calculated plan. In order to make his wife the new housekeeper, he sprinkles particles of a peach fruit on the neck of the current housekeeper Gook Moon-gwang, which she just so happens to be allergic to.
Gook starts coughing endlessly and Kim Ki-taek convinces Mrs. Park that she has tuberculosis. He even sprinkles ketchup on a tissue to imply that she's coughing blood. He then gives Park Dong-ik/Nathan a fake company number that he can call to get a new house keeper. It turns it's the home number of the Kims. Mrs Kim thus ends up getting hired.
8 Mrs. Park - Hufflepuff
Mrs. Park, the mother in the Park family, embodies loyalty. This is trait that is synonymous with House Hufflepuff. However, as seen in Parasite, she is loyal to a fault. She trusts her employees too much and accepts their recommendations without doing proper background checks.
Mrs. Park also easily believes any lie she is told by those close to her, employing Kim Ki-woo and believing Kim Ki-jung's fabricated theories about her son's paintings almost immediately. She also trusts Kim Ki-taek too much and this makes her lose a trusted employee in Gook Moon-gwang, the original housekeeper.
7 Gook Moon-gwang - Gryffindor
Gook Moon-gwang had been the trusted housekeeper of the Parks for years before the Kims infiltrated the home and ruined her life. However, it turned out that she had hidden her husband in the bunker of the house for years without the knowledge of the Kims and she was feeding him daily.
This shows how brave and daring she is. These are traits associated with the House Gryffindor. The fact that she risked keeping her husband there for so long yet she could have lost her job if she was discovered was commendable. And after discovering what the Kims were up to, she was brave to hold them captive, albeit briefly.
6 Min-hyuk - Hufflepuff
When Min-hyuk gets the chance to study abroad earlier on in the film, he takes it. He recommends Kim Ki-woo for his former job as a private tutor for the Park family. However, Min-hyuk asks his friend to not seduce the daughter of the Parks because he likes her and he'd like to date her when he comes back.
This proves that Min-hyuk believes in patience, loyalty and fair play; traits which the House Hufflepuff is known for. Since nice people don't exactly win all the time, Kim Ki-woo betrays him and goes on to date the daughter of the Parks. It should be noted, though, that Min-hyuk was the only character to be spared from the movie's final bloodbath.
5 Oh Geun-sae - Gryffindor
Gook Moon-gwang's husband Oh Geun-sae also belongs to House Gryffindor. He was brave enough to just live in someone else's bunker for years. And in the final moments, he was brave and crazy enough to finally walk out of the bunker, grab a knife and start stabbing people at the party.
Anger had driven him to try and avenge his wife Gook Moon-gwang's death. Gook succumbed to her injuries after being pushed down the stairs by Mrs. Kim as she tried to alert Mrs. Park about the madness that was going on.
4 Kim Ki-jung - Slytherin
When Mrs. Park offhandedly mentioned that she was also looking for an art tutor for her son, Kim Ki-woo recommended his sister Kim Ki-jung for the job. The sly Kim Ki-jung was quite convincing during her first encounter with Mrs. Kim. She spoke eloquently, acted like a serious professional and even ordered the housekeeper out of the room.
Not to forget that she was the one who helped her brother forger his college certificate. Most importantly, she placed the foundation for her father's hiring by leaving her panties in the back seat of the car thus implying that the current chauffeur was having sex in his employer's car. Kim Ki-jung's cunning ways place her in House Slytherin.
3 Park Dong-ik/Nathan - Ravenclaw
The father of the Park family was portrayed as intelligent and wealthy. He ran a successful tech company and was keen on little details such as how his chauffeur navigated corners. These traits place him in the House Ravenclaw where members have a high IQ.
Unfortunately, Park Dong-ik was brutally murdered by his own chauffeur Kim Ki-taek. The head of the Kim family had become angry after hearing Park Dong-ik lamenting about his smell. He felt this was just another way of the rich disrespecting the poor.
2 Mrs. Kim - Gryffindor
Mrs. Kim replaced Gook Moon-gwang as the housekeeper of the Parks after a well executed smear job by her husband Kim Ki-taek. When the Parks went on a camping trip, she invited her whole family to party in a classic case of when the cat is away, the mouse will play.
She was clearly risking getting caught and that almost happened when the Parks arrived earlier than expected. This showed how brave she was, a trait which places her in the House Gryffindor. She was ruthless too, given the way she knocked Gook Moon-gwang down the stairs when she tried to alert Mrs. Park.
1 Park Da-song - Ravenclaw
Park Da-song was the hyperactive young son of Mr and Mrs Park who enjoyed playing games around the house and shooting visitors with a blunt arrow. Da-song was also intelligent and observant. She almost ruined the mega scheme of the Kims after noticing that Mr. Kim and Mrs. Kim had the same smell.
Despite his relatively young age, Da-song also knew how to read Morse code. To add to that, he knew all about the history of the native Indians of America. He could set up a tent on his own too. Just like his dad, he is the perfect House Ravenclaw member.
