Pakistan records 869 new coronavirus cases, tally rises to 8,348
Pakistan on Sunday reported 869 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of the COVID-19 patients to 8,348 in the country, officials said.
According to officials, the worst-hit Punjab province reported 3,822 patients, Sindh 2,537, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 1,137, Balochistan 376, Gilgit-Baltistan 257, Islamabad 171 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 48, taking the total tally to 8,348.
With nine fatalities on Sunday, the death toll from the deadly disease has reached 168. Sindh province recorded its highest number of eight deaths in a single day, they said.
Pakistan has conducted 98,522 tests, including 7,847 during the last 24 hours. So far 1,868 patients have recovered.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is struggling to contain the spread of coronavirus in Pakistan, on Sunday alleged that Muslims are being targeted in India to "divert the backlash" over the government's COVID-19 policy.
