Kelly Smith shared the story of her late father’s love of baseball and their combined journey through heartbreak and the 2016 Indians season back in July of 2017 — just a month after her father passed following a lengthy battle with bladder cancer.
It was a FanPost dropped into the middle of an exciting baseball season that absolutely took my breath away. To this day, I still occasionally read it and use it as inspiration to be a better baseball fan, a better person, and a better father.
Back in December 2019 Kelly and her brother, Kyle, turned the post into a beautiful video tribute that was picked up and shared by the Indians on Saturday as part of their #OurTribe campaign.
I will use just about any reason I have to re-share their story, so here’s another:
