Harry Potter: 10 Dodgy Order Of The Phoenix Members | ScreenRant

0

The Order of the Phoenix were a secret group of witches and wizards who were willing to do everything in order to stop Lord Voldemort's reign of terror. They were around when the Dark Lord was at the peak of his powers, and formed again to try and stop him the second time around, albeit with their numbers far more depleted than they were before.

Despite the group meaning well, though, some of them are rather dodgy. Whether it was through their own misdeeds, through misunderstandings, or due to longstanding prejudices in the wizarding world, here are 10 members of the Order that were pretty sketchy.

10 Sirius Black

Sirius Black was wrongly imprisoned in Azkaban for 13 years, accused of working for Lord Voldemort and assisting in the murders of James and Lily Potter. Yet while he was a victim, he was also somebody who didn't always play by the same rules as everybody else.

Sirius is reckless, shown when he transforms himself into a giant dog and goes with Harry as he embarks the train to Hogwarts before his fifth year at the school. He's always gagging to get out of the house in which he's kept, too, despite the fact it would put both himself and others in danger. That said, it's still devastating when he's murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange - in both the Order of the Phoenix book and movie.

9 Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin is a lovely character. He's brilliant as a teacher during the events of the Prisoner of Azkaban, and also mentors Harry later in the war against Lord Voldemort. However, his one caveat is that, as a werewolf, he's not the most stable guy to be around.

This is evident when Lupin transforms, without taking his potion, on the night where Sirius' innocence is revealed. When in his wolf form, he has no care about who he hurts and comes extremely close to killing Harry, Ron, Hermione, Sirius and even Severus Snape. It's this which prompts him into stepping down as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, leaving many of his pupils upset in the process.

8 James Potter

James Potter is dead by the time Lord Voldemort returns to power - but he was active in the fight against the Dark Lord the first time around, However, while he was a nice enough wizard, the same can't be said for when he was at Hogwarts.

Harry's father is a bully, making life a living misery for Severus Snape. Harry sees this himself when he looks into Snape's thoughts, witnessing a horrible showdown between the two enemies that results in his Potions Master being left humiliated.

7 Severus Snape

And speaking of Snape, he's another to make this list. After killing Albus Dumbledore in the Half-Blood Prince, many believed him to be a villain - Harry included. However, it was revealed in the end that he'd actually made a deal with Dumbledore to kill him, and had sided with the Order of the Phoenix the moment Voldemort threatened Lily Potter's life.

But Snape wasn't an angel. He bullied his students, making the lives of Harry and Neville Longbottom particularly difficult. And he favored his own Slytherin pupils, too. Just because he was a good guy in the end doesn't absolve him of all his sins.

6 Arabella Figg

Arabella Figg is just an ordinary muggle, Harry believes. That's up until the Dementors come to Little Whinging during the early moments of the Order of the Phoenix book and movie. They attack Dudley Dursley and, to Harry's complete and utter shock, Figg can see them.

That's because she's a squib. She'd looked after Harry for years, making him look at boring pictures of her cats and giving the youngster some rather stale food. Figg is dodgy because she's clearly a brilliant liar.

5 Mundungus Fletcher

Mundungus Fletcher is a crook. He sells illegal items, puts himself before others, and is also a thief - stealing all of Sirius old belongings following his death at the hands of Bellatrix Lestrange.

He's kept on board by the Order because of his connections with some of the wizarding world's worst characters. Harry ends up confronting him, with a little help from Dobby and Kreacher, when trying to learn the whereabouts of Voldemort's Horcruxes. Mundungus reveals he sold an old locket to Dolores Umbridge showing that, while he's loathsome, he does have his uses after all.

4 Arthur Weasley

Arthur Weasley is definitely under the thumb of his wife Molly, driving her up the wall with his obsession with muggles and their way of living. While his role is in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, he himself breaks many of the rules he actually created.

Arthur has a fondness for experimenting with muggle items and attempting to bring them to life. He gets caught out when Harry and Ron fly an old Ford Anglia to Hogwarts in their second year at the school, but still doesn't appear to learn his lesson, hiding many of his dodgy experiments from his wife. Given how fierce she is though, we can't say we blame him.

3 Rubeus Hagrid

Rubeus Hagrid was wrongly accused of opening the Chamber of Secrets the first time around - yet he's certainly not whiter than white. The half-giant has a fondness for all magical creatures, including illegal and illicit ones such as dragons.

Hagrid also shows he's not entirely trustworthy, giving out information on how to overcome Fluffy the three-headed dog in order to get the stone. He means well, but his shortcomings are obvious.

2 Peter Pettigrew

Peter Pettigrew was a member of the Order of the Phoenix during the first wizarding war. He was a small and timid person, often looking up to friends such as Sirius, James and Remus throughout his life. But that didn't stop him from becoming a spy and working for Voldemort.

Pettigrew is a snitch, and gives up the location of James and Lily after tricking Sirius into giving up the role of Secret Keeper. To make matters worse, he's a big player in the Dark Lord's return to power, murdering Cedric Diggory on his master's orders. He dies in the Deathly Hallows book after showing some remorse for his actions, with his own magical hand choking him to death.

1 Albus Dumbledore

Yes, Albus Dumbledore is a brilliant person and wizard. But he's got a dodgy past - which comes to light during the Deathly Hallows novel.

Much of it is omitted from the movies, but it's revealed that he regularly overlooked his own family in order to plot a rise to greatness with Gellert Grindelwald. He was too self-obsessed and pays the price when his sister Ariana, who is disturbed from some past horror, is killed. Fortunately he learns his lesson and does much good in the wizarding world before his death at Snape's hands.
