Jonathan Kuminga, the highly promising young big man currently in the class of 2021, has cut his list to 10 so here it is:

  • Duke
  • Kentucky
  • Washington
  • Florida State
  • Memphis
  • Texas Tech
  • Michigan
  • Georgia
  • Maryland
  • Auburn

There are a couple of things look at here. First, only two ACC schools are on the list, Duke and FSU. No UNC, no Virginia, much less Syracuse.

Secondly, while Duke, Kentucky and Michigan are the blue bloods in pursuit. Kansas, Villanova, UCLA and Indiana aren't involved.

There are several rising (or potentially rising) powers working him too: Washington, Memphis, Texas Tech, Georgia and Auburn.

What’s notable to us is that lately SEC teams are pushing hard on major recruits and not just Kentucky and Florida. Lately, Georgia, Auburn and L$U are showing up on lots of lists. They haven't shown enough success yet to call it a long-term trend but it’s worth keeping an eye on.

Finally, there’s Memphis. Last season, the Tigers looked like a new juggernaut.

Now? Not so much. Penny Hardaway and Memphis thoroughly screwed up James Wiseman’s situation and an NCAA reckoning is looming. Last spring Hardaway had huge momentum.

Now? He’s pretty much squandered it.
