Aldi crowned winner of best BBQ food in Good Housekeeping’s blind taste test – full list revealed
ALDI has beaten luxury rivals including M&S and Waitrose to be crowned winner of the best supermarket to buy BBQ food.
The discounter scooped more wins than any other grocer in a blind taste test by Good Housekeeping.
Aldi took the crown for best kebab with its Peri Peri Chicken King Kebab, which costs £4.99 for a 924g pack and was described by judges as “well-seasoned and meltingly tender”.
The supermarket was also top in the best ribs category for the second year in a row, claiming the prize with its Slow Cooked Smoky BBQ Pork Ribs, priced at £3.29 for 600g.
The ribs were commended for their “succulent meat and smoky-sweet honeyed flavour”.
Rounding out Aldi’s hat trick of winning products, it came joint first with M&S for summer desserts with its Sicilian Lemon Glazed Cheesecake, which costs £2.49 for 550g.
Aldi’s cheesecake – which is half the price of M&S’ winning product, the Our Best Ever Trifle, priced at £5.00 for 900g – was praised for its “citrussy sweet taste and smooth clotted-cream-like filling”.
Co-op, M&S and Sainsbury’s each took home two winning categories, while Lidl was crowned the winner of one.
The remaining sections were won by specialist butchers.
Asda, Iceland, Morrisons, Tesco and Waitrose didn’t scoop any prizes for their products.
In terms of beef burgers, Edwards of Conwy, sold through Ocado, were named the best for their pack of four Welsh Beef Quarter Pounders, priced at £3.49 for 454g.
The winner of the best sausages was Co-op with their Spicy Sausage Swirls, which cost £2.85 for 230g.

Good Housekeeping tested 182 products across 12 categories.
Angela Trofymova, head of food testing at the Good Housekeeping Institute, said: “We love doing these taste tests, and are always keen to share the results with consumers, so they know which amazing products are worth their hard earned cash.
“Obviously this year, the situation is sadly very different, as we can’t dash between supermarkets as we’re used to – or even get to a supermarket if we’re isolating.
“Nonetheless, we hope the results give some guidance for those looking to host a BBQ for their household this May Bank Holiday weekend – and most importantly, we hope everyone stays safe and well.”
Aldi also came out top in the 2019 BBQ taste test by Good Housekeeping, where it was praised for its Masala & Roast Cauliflower Vegan Sausages, The Deli Masala Roast Cauliflower Sausages and, again, its Slow Cooked Smoky BBQ Pork Ribs.
It also took runner up spots for its Specially Selected Moroccan Style Mini Pork Sausages and Peri Peri Chicken King Kebab, which won this year.
