Hearn approaches developers to take on new boxing game
Hearn says with Electronic Arts disinterested, he’s taking his ideas to other game developers.
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn isn’t giving up on his big plans to bring a boxing game into the new generation. After approaching Electronic Arts to see if they’d have interest in revamping their Fight Night series (to no avail), Hearn tells Sky Sports that he’s now looking for other developers to take on the project.
While Hearn admits that he hasn’t the first clue about video game development, he says he perfectly understands public demand and there’s no doubt that this is something the people want.
“Every time I talk about a boxing game, it goes berserk. I spoke to our friends at EA, they’re doing plenty on the UFC, so we’re talking to other game developers and I’m giving them my ideas. We’ve had meetings with major game software operators. It’s something I know will work. I know the demand for it. I understand EA is concentrating on UFC games, but other companies are interested and I think it’s really exciting.”
Hearn continues by saying that he’s well aware that this is going to be a large undertaking as a project, so a 2021 release would be the earliest we might expect to see an actual product, but insists it’ll be well worth the wait.
