The Masked Singer: Season 3 Quarterfinals Predictions & Clues Explained
Tonight The Masked Singer season 3 reached the quarterfinals, narrowing the field from five to four performers. For the four remaining performers, there was a whole new group of clues to help confirm the identities fans already have narrowed down.
The guest panelist was comedian Jeff Dye and he didn't disappoint. Though his guesses might not have been correct, they were entertaining and actually not that bad as far as guesses go. The night was full of jaw-dropping performances. Frog kicked off the show with his usual crowd-pleasing performances. This time it was "Bust a Move" by Young MC and it was more than enough to keep him safe. By the time the final performance came with Turtle singing Coldplay's hit "Fix You", it was clear this was going to be a tough vote.
In the end, it was Kitty who was unable to claw her way to the finale. The reveal was a bit of a reunion for Nick Cannon as Kitty was revealed to be America's Got Talent star Jackie Evancho. The opera singer had stood next to Nick as he hosted that show when she was just 10 years old. The reunion, of course, was bittersweet as he had to say goodbye to Evancho, who was definitely one of the more talented singers we've seen. As shocking as her departure was, there are still going to be three more yet this season. Each of the remaining masked performers has a devoted group of fans with arguments as to why they should win it all. Only a few weeks until we find out who it will be, but in the meantime, the clues help confirm our predictions.
Prediction: Bow Wow
Clues: Clues this week included Frog calling little frog. We saw a red car, three loaves of bread followed by bales of hay or straw and a hawk. The clue package had a Footloose theme and he spoke of being ready to cut loose. The post-performance clue was a private jet.
We know Bow Wow does have a little frog at home as we've mentioned his daughter in previous clue articles. We agree with judge Robin Thicke's analysis of the private jet clue. Bow Wow had a famous incident where he was flying on a commercial airline but posting on social media about being on a private jet and he got busted by a passenger behind him who caught it on camera. It was such a famous faux pas that it became a social media challenge. The hawk for the NBA team the Atlanta Hawks is another clue to the town where Bow Wow resides. The clues are clearly all just confirming what we and now even some of the judges know, Frog is rapper Bow Wow.
Prediction: Barry Zito
Clues: Rhino spoke of how before he met his wife he had major struggles both personal and professional. There was a sign shown that said hill ahead 15 mph $30 fine for high speed. We saw three baby elephants, a pair of ballet slippers and a turkey hand. Rhino's post-performance clue was a Navy hat.
Barry Zito played a United States Navy petty officer on the show Jag. Judge Ken Jeong got the Jag reference but didn't know who it referred to. It is Zito. We've talked in previous predictions about how he met his wife after hitting rock bottom in his Major League Baseball career when he was benched during a World Series game. The speed poster could be a pitching reference. The ballet slippers might seem out of place but Zito, ever the enigma, performed in Oakland Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker. Pretty clear at this point that Rhino is former Giants pitcher Barry Zito.
Prediction: Kandi Burruss
Clues: The clue package included an image of Columbia, another mention of how Night Angel started young and was from the south. There were various envelopes that said To My Hero, Say Baby I Love You, and Love Night Angel. Her post-performance clue was a ski hat, goggles, and snow boots.
We've previously noted that Kandi Burruss worked with Destiny's Child as a songwriter so yet another reference to a Destiny's Child song makes sense. Another clue that has been a consistent one was how young she started. This applies to the The Real Housewives of Atlanta star. All the snow clues could be a nod at the fact that she replaced DeShawn Snow when she joined the Real Housewives franchise. We are still confident that Night Angel is Kandi Burruss.
Prediction: Jesse McCartney
Clues: The clue package started out with Turtle fixing a car. A poster said 1999 and wanted. There were more comic references, a mop, a jeep, a wedding cake, and some poker chips. His post-performance clue was a zombie.
Again we got a great link from the panel. This time Jeff Dye who said the clue was for The Walking Dead. He was close. Fear The Walking Dead was the actual clue because Jesse McCartney was on that show. The wedding cake makes sense as McCartney recently got engaged to his long time girlfriend. We've explained the comic book and superhero clues before as he is voices a character in Young Justice which is part of the Batman universe. He joined Dream St. in 1999, which he credits as the jumping off point for his career. His perfume is named Wanted. It doesn't appear there needs any more clarification that Turtle is former teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8pm EST on Fox.
