Kristin Cavallari Advised Engaged Couple 'Don't Do It' Ahead of Jay Cutler Split
Initially, Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler's announcement that they were splitting up after 10 years together was quite the surprise. During the most recent season of Very Cavallari, these two really seemed to be on the same page in regard to balancing their responsibilities and their family life. On April 26, the former couple claimed that they simply "grew apart" and it seemed like they were headed for an amicable divorce. That all changed in less than 24 hours.
In court documents, both Kristin and Jay claimed to be the "at-home parent" to their three children. She accused him of marital misconduct. Kristin wanted primary custody of their kids, leaving with Jay visitation rights. In contrast, Jay asked for joint custody. They even disagreed about the date of their separation. Their peaceful uncoupling became very acrimonious very quickly, surprising many Very Cavallari fans. However, there might have been some warning signs that got overlooked.
While Kristin and Jay appeared to be a happy couple before their split, TMZ released an old video that, in retrospect, might have been a sign that they were about to break up. During a question and answer session with customers at her store Uncommon James back in February, an engaged couple asked Kristin if she had any advice before they started their lives as a married couple. Jay and Kristin told them "congrats" in unison. And, then with her husband by her side, Kristin warned them "don't do it."
That seemed like a silly response at the time, but it might have actually been some foreshadowing for the current drama they are experiencing. Following their very different comments on custody, The Blast reported that they came to a temporary custody agreement on May 4. This was after rumors swirled that Jay may have been hanging out with Kristin's ex-best friend Kelly Henderson, something that E! News later said wasn't true.
Considering all the drama that erupted between Kristin and Jay just a couple months later, it is not-at-all surprising that Kristin wasn't overflowing with marital wisdom in response to that question. While a lot of details have emerged through court documents and anonymous quotes from "inside sources," neither Kristin nor Jay has publicly addressed their break up. Most likely, she's saving her most open revelations for Very Cavallari, if the show returns for a fourth season, that is.
