Coronavirus LIVE: Lockdown restrictions set to ease from Monday as UK death toll becomes highest in Europe

THE UK death toll has hit 30,076 as Brits are set to enjoy picnics and unlimited exercise “from Monday”.

Britain’s ‘Stay at Home’ message is set to be ditched in days as Boris Johnson prepares to ease lockdown measures on Monday.

The PM will address the nation on Sunday with a roadmap for how to tweak the current lockdown measures, some of which may come into effect the very next day.

The UK is now among one of the worst in the world as the number of deaths passed the 30,000 mark.

This comes as Boris Johnson faced Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday for the first time.

Mr Starmer grilled the government for its response to the coronavirus, asking “how on earth” the UK came to have the highest death toll in Europe.

The PM said comparisons should not be made yet, and added that he “bitterly regrets” the epidemic in care homes which he claims is now seeing an improvement.

Boris Johnson added the government was aiming to complete 200,000 tests a day by the end of the month.

Meanwhile coronavirus scientist Prof Neil Ferguson has resigned after ‘breaking lockdown rules to meet his married lover’.

The Chancellor  Rishi Sunak is considering cutting the 80 per cent wage subsidy to 60 per cent, which would cut income by up to £625 a month. 

Over  6,000 people have died in care homes across England and Wales – meaning that almost a third of all deaths from Covid-19 have been in care homes.
